Regan brace sees off Armagh
Mayo 4-16 Armagh 3-12
Two goals early in the second half, one from the penalty spot by goalkeeper Donal O'Brien, sealed Mayo's first win of the campaign at MacHale Park.
Wasteful Armagh had trailed by 10 points in the first half – with Mayo's Sean Regan and Stephen Hoban both finding the net.
But two goals in as many minutes from Declan Coulter and Conor Corvan reduced the home side's interval lead to four points, 2-8 to 2-4, Kenny Feeney having struck two 70-yard frees with the aid of a strong wind in that first half.
Regan added a second goal early in the second half when he pounced on an error in the Armagh defence, and when O'Brien fired home the penalty in the 47th minute, Mayo's lead had shot to an unassailable 11 points.
Despite losing Derek McDonnell on a straight red card with 15 minutes remaining, the home side always looked comfortable.
Even a third goal for Armagh, and the second of the evening for Corvan, in a free-riddled second half couldn't rattle them.
