Rebels must cut old guard loose

Sean Og O hAilpin says he would consider returning to the Cork hurling panel next year if the invitation were to come.

It won't happen if Denis Walsh remains in charge, but would a different manager opt to recall even such an iconic figure as Sean Og, who will be 35 next May? Probably not.

In fact, there are many in Cork who believe that Walsh made a mistake this year by not being more ruthless in his culling of the county's long-established figures who achieved so much but whose time has past.

That was evident on the day Galway demolished Cork in the qualifiers. And since Galway were all but eaten alive by Waterford, it puts Cork's demise in perspective.

Any wonder they're looking to the U-21s?
