Quinn goal sees DIT through to final

DIT 1-15 Carlow 0-15

NIALL QUINN'S goal in first-half injury-time proved crucial as DIT deservedly saw off Carlow at Dr Cullen Park to qualify for the final.

Carlow -- without all their players from county champions Mount Leinster Rangers ahead of the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship final -- opened the scoring with a point from Craig Doyle within 15 seconds of the throw-in, but Padraig Phelan levelled for DIT.

The home side regained the lead through rising star Marty Kavanagh, but points from Dean Curran and Paul Morris put DIT ahead -- and it was a lead they never relinquished.

Just before the break, with DIT 0-8 to 0-7 ahead, home forward Martin Clowry was denied a goal when his close-range effort was well cleared by goalkeeper Finn McGarry.

DIT swept upfield and following inter-passing between Pat Kenny and Quinn, the latter forced home a goal.

Carlow fought back after the break and a splendid point from John Corcoran reduced the gap to two points (1-11 to 0-12) but, with Brian Campion and Paul Morris raising late white flags, DIT held on.
