Portumna overcome De La Salle at Croker

The AIB All-Ireland Club Finals at Croke Park are the highlight of the sporting action on this St Patrick's Day.

The Tommy Moore Cup will be staying west of the Shannon.

Galway forwards Joe Canning and Damien Hayes were to the fore as Portumna blitzed time finalists De La Salle of Waterford by 2-24 to1-8 to successfully defend their title.

Hayes netted twice in the opening half hour with Canning helping himself to six points as the east Galway club built a commanding 2-11 to 0-3 lead at the break.

To their credit De La Salle battled admirably in the second half with Tony Nevin finishing to the net 12 minutes after the interval.

Joe Canning ended up the game's top scorer with ten points as he collected his third All-Ireland club hurling winner's medal before his 21st birthday
