Portumna hurlers ended Mount Leinster Ranger’s fairytale season to win the club All-Ireland title at Croke Park today.
The Galway champions were in control for large periods of the game and ran out 0-19 to 0-11 winners in the end to claim a fourth All-Ireland title, adding to wins in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
They led for the majority of the contest, establishing a 0-9 to 0-5 half-time lead, before consolidating that advantage in the second period.
The Surprise package of the season, the Carlow outfit showed great battling qualities and points from Paul Coady and Denis Murphy brought them back to within four points of their opponents, before they pulled away again to secure an eight-point victory.
Wing-back Eoin Lynch was named man-of-the-match, while the Canning brothers Ollie and Joe along with Damien Hayes scored all but three points of their overall total.
Portumna are now second with Birr in the roll of honour behind Ballyhale Shamrocks.
