O'Hehir's tour de force proves difference in flying Kildare start
Kildare 3-11 Westmeath 1-13
Eoin O'Hehir made the key contribution as Kildare got their campaign off to an enterprising start with a win over Westmeath at St Conleth's Park.
O'Hehir finished with a tally of 1-6, with 1-5 of that coming in the opening period. Tadhg Forde also scored a goal to help the home side lead by 2-7 to 1-6 at half-time.
Westmeath resumed strongly and had the margin back down to one after just six minutes but a goal from Cathal Melville gave Kildare the upper hand once more and they defended well from there to the end.
