The favourites came through in the end, but their winning margin doesn't reflect how close Good Counsel came to causing an upset in Carlow on Saturday.
With 11 minutes left there were only two points in it and if it wasn't for the opportunism of Thomas O'Hanrahan, who scored a goal in each half, Kieran's would have been in serious trouble.
Inspired by midfielder Jack Guiney, Good Counsel led 0-10 to 1-6 at the interval. They created many goal chances in the third quarter, but were unable to take any, with Sam Johnson pulling off a point-blank save to deny Guiney.
The losers' resolve was eventually broken in the 52nd minute when they allowed a '65' by Cathal O'Neill to drift all the way to the net. Then Cillian Buckley added another goal.
Guiney's late goal was just a consolation for Counsel.
