O'Connor and Leacy target double delight for Wexford
Wexford contest both the Division One and Two National League finals this Saturday at Semple Stadium with Kilkenny and Offaly in opposition.
The Division One tie provides an intriguing encounter with Wexford's power facing Kilkenny's guile. A high-scoring match is anticipated as both sides possess a potent set of forwards. Wexford's Una Leacy captains the side at full-forward and enters the game with a personal tally of 4-10, while at the opposite end Kilkenny's Aoife Neary has bagged 3-9 to date.
Kilkenny name one change from their semi-final win. Kate McDonald takes over at wing-back as All Star Lizzie Lyng gets married tomorrow and has been excused. In the forward line the pacy Michelle Quilty moves to the corner while Marie Dargan slots in at wing-forward.
Wexford boss JJ Doyle is without Aine Codd with Fiona Kavanagh coming in and Rathnure's Michelle O'Leary moving to centre-forward.
Each side has the capability to score goals with Kilkenny coming from behind to inch past Galway by a solitary goal and Wexford hitting four against Cork.
If Wexford are to retain their title, the contributions of Mary Leacy at centre-back, Catherine O'Loughlin at full and Claire O'Connor in the corner is crucial. For the Cats, Catherine Doherty at full-back, on Una Leacy, and Leanne Fennelly at centre-back are key.
Offaly's Joachim Kelly leads his side into their second national final in six months against defending Division Two champions Wexford. Kelly's impressive side have had wins against Cork and Kilkenny this season with Elaine Dermody top-scoring with a tally of 2-28.
Wexford captain Ciara O'Connor spoke earlier this week of her side's determination to achieve a double, and, with their experience coupled with a number of strong positional switches -- Ciara Storey at centre-back and Siona Nolan at centre-forward -- the balance tips slightly in favour of the Model County.
