O'Brien steers Gaels to victory
Clonguish Gaels 1-10 Wolfe Tones 1-8 LONGFORD SHC FINAL
An eight-point haul from Man of the Match Joe O'Brien helped Clonguish Gaels to their first title since 2006.
O'Brien's accurate free-taking proved to be the deciding factor in this contest with Wolfe Tones at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Clonguish held a five-point cushion at half-time thanks to scores from Paddy Dowd and O'Brien. They bagged the game's first goal on the stroke of half-time. Stephen Connolly instigated the move when he found Brendan Burke lurking outside the small rectangle. Burke then swiftly offloaded the sliotar out to his corner-forward Karl Murray, who found the back of the net.
Wolfe Tones, however, dug deep midway through the second period and a well-taken Jimmy Connell goal in the 56th minute reduced the deficit back to three.
A final point from Eoin Donnellan reduced the lead to two, but Clonguish had enough in reserve to claim their first Longford title in six years.
