GALWAY hurling manager John McIntyre has drawn a raft of new faces into his 37-man squad for the new season, including Joseph Cooney, son of the former All Star and double All-Ireland winner Joe.

Other newcomers include Turloughmore's Brian Murphy, Niall Donoghue of Kilbeacanty, Craughwell's Ger O'Halloran, Johnny Coen of Loughrea, Clarinbridge's Barry Daly, Bernard Burke of St Thomas and Kiltormer's Keith Kilkenny.

Among those who have featured previously are injury victims Ciaran O'Donovan and Fergal Moore, with Eoin Forde of Clarinbridge and Kiltormer's David Hayes also returning.

Five Portumna players are no longer in the squad, with Ollie Canning being joined in retirement by Niall Hayes and Eugene McEntee, while Eoin Lynch and Kevin Hayes have been omitted, along with Ardrahan's Pat Holland and Mullagh's Conor Dervan.

Meanwhile, Leitrim football manager Mickey Moran has drafted in Brian Breen as a replacement for John Morrison on his management team.

A hero from the county's 1994 Connacht success, Sean O'Heslin's clubman Breen held a similar role under Des Dolan in 1998.
