Mythen brace helps London deny Derry in frenetic finish
A blazing closing 10 minutes in Saturday's rain at Casement Park swept London into the semi-finals as the exiles rocked Derry.
After a tight first half, during which the teams were level five times, a late point from a free by midfielder Ruairi Convery sent Derry in with a slim 0-7 to 0-6 interval advantage.
The Oak Leaf side struck early after the resumption, scoring six points to one in the space of 15 minutes. Derry looked as if they would ease to victory, but things took a dramatic turn.
Trailing by 0-14 to 0-8 with just 12 minutes left, a shot by Richard O'Connell was well saved by Derry 'keeper Darryl McDermott, but Wexford man Mark Mythen buried the rebound into the net.
And then, just two minutes later, he raised the green flag once more and suddenly London led at 2-9 to 0-14. Mark Craig levelled the argument, but three unanswered points by the winners polished off favourites Derry.
