Mulrooney calls time on Kilkenny reign

Kilkenny are searching for at least one new hurling manager after minor boss Richard Mulrooney informed the county board that he was stepping down after three hugely successful seasons.

The Dicksboro man guided the county to three All-Ireland finals, and won the title in 2008 and 2010.

"I'm looking forward to recharging the batteries," said Mulrooney, the principal at Clara national school.

"I just want a break after six hectic years, which were done with the support of a very understanding family."

Before he took on the job with the Kilkenny minors, he trained club side Clara at U-18 level and won a championship (2007), while in 2004 and 2005 he was part of the county U-21 management team.
