Morrissey's treble sinks Borris

Castlecomer CS 5-9 Borris VS 2-6

Billy Morrissey was the man with the golden touch as Castlecomer charged into the quarter-finals past Borris VS in Thomastown.

The Carlow side opened the scoring with a point from Kevin McDonald, but Morrissey got into the mood early, and he shot 1-2 as 'Comer opened up a 1-3 to 0-2 lead after only 10 minutes. Borris hit back with points from McDonald and Chris Nolan, but two goals in three minutes left them in serious trouble.

'Comer enjoyed a slice of luck when goalkeeper Jason Shore's free was deflected into his own net by Dara Tobin. Jamie Holohan gave goalie James Curran no chance with the second in the 25th minute. Morrissey then bagged two more points (free, '65') before grabbing his second goal in stoppage time.

That left the winners 4-6 to 0-5 clear at the break. Kevin McDonald pulled back a goal for Borris early in the second half, but Morrissey (2) and Ollie Feehan grabbed quick points to undo the damage. Morrissey then struck his third goal, and the road to the finish was easy after that.
