Moloney magic torments Louth

GMIT 4-22 Louth 1-9

SHANE Moloney and Gary Brennan bagged two goals apiece as GMIT cruised to a comfortable victory over Louth in Darver.

After a tight opening quarter, the visitors eased through the gears, plundering 1-10 in the space of 11 minutes, while their beleaguered hosts could only muster a David Mahoney free by way of reply.

Moloney netted the opening goal in the 25th minute, and that was probably the score that confirmed there would be no way back for Louth, who trailed by 1-14 to 0-4 at half-time.

To their credit, Dee McCarthy's men rallied bravely after the break, and a fortuitous goal straight from a long-range free by Mahoney closed the deficit to 1-15 to 1-7.

It was false hope, however, as GMIT cranked up the intensity again to rattle off three goals in as many minutes.

Brennan netted twice in quick succession from a similar angle and distance each time, and Moloney rifled home his second goal of the contest to make it 4-17 to 1-8.

The students didn't let up there, and added five more points before the finish.
