McMahon turns tide

Two goals in a minute from Diarmuid McMahon helped Clare past a Davy Fitzgerald-managed LIT side and into the semi-finals at Sixmilebridge on Saturday.

McMahon's key strikes came at the mid-point of the second period and a third goal by sub Adrian Donovan late in the game cemented the Banner boys' place in the last four.

At half-time, the home side led by 0-8 to 0-7 but a switch in the LIT forward line after the break, that saw Laois's Willie Hyland move to full-forward, paid off for the students. His third score, a point in the 42nd minute, put LIT ahead (0-10 to 0-9) but McMahon's goals, set up by Conor McGrath, changed the course of a tough contest.
