McHugh shoots down Fingal

Monaghan 1-17
Fingal 2-12

SHARP-SHOOTING Michael McHugh was Monaghan's match-winner in a feisty encounter in Swords.

The full-forward notched up 1-13 in a peerless performance, as the Fingal effort ran out of steam.

After Peter Daly opened the home side's account in the sixth minute, McHugh began to make his presence felt, and having rattled over the leveller, he snatched a goal on 30 minutes after a fine fetch and turn.

Fingal's Aodhan McInerney cracked over two quick points before the home side edged themselves ahead when Davy Byrne bagged his second goal.

Fingal only managed three points in the second half, which McHugh began by tapping over two quick frees.

Stephen Lambe fired over two more and Monaghan clinched it when Trevor Hilliard hit a colossal point near the end.
