Loyal fans urge Tipp to bring back 'missing guest' next year

Barry Duggan

JUST as they did two years ago, the Tipperary hurling team and supporters vowed to bounce back next year to reclaim the All-Ireland championship.

The scenes in Thurles last night were almost an exact rerun of 2009 -- a losing team returning home under dark clouds and rain, but with loyal fans waiting to lift their spirits.

At Semple Stadium, young and old -- bedecked in blue and gold -- from all over the Premier County urged their heroes to return to Croke Park in 2012 and repeat last year's heroics.

Manager Declan Ryan said the pain that they were feeling would drive them to greater heights and "bring back that missing guest here next year".

To the roars of the estimated 2,000 in attendance, captain Eoin Kelly said the team were feeling a lot of hurt, but that this would provide the fuel for better days ahead.

"In 12 months' time we will all be here, it will be a brighter night and the Liam MacCarthy Cup will be sitting here," Kelly declared.
