He’s played at the highest level of his sport and attended some of the biggest sporting events in the world, but Roy Keane says that hurling is the pick of the bunch.

Speaking to the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind annual magazine 'Guidelines', the Cork native was fulsome in his praise of the game, singling out the All-Ireland for special praise.

Keane was in attendance at this year’s final between Cork and Clare and believes that the hurling showpiece holds its own with any sporting event in the world.

“I still think the best sport out there to watch is hurling. My career is focused on soccer but I have great admiration for GAA players.

“If I had a chance to watch any game in the world tomorrow I would go to a hurling match. I’ve been to the Superbowl, Formula 1 racing, Champion’s League matches, but the All-Ireland is up there with all of them as a great occasion.”

A seasoned campaigner for the Irish Guide Dogs, Keane is calling on families to support the organisation this Christmas and has commended the organisation for its efforts in improving the lives of people with blindness around the country.
