Longford rise up from the doldrums
LONGFORD 2-14 LIMERICK 0-9 All-Ireland SFC Qual Rd 1
A Leinster defeat to Wicklow was put to bed as Longford got their qualifier campaign up and running with a commanding victory over 13-man Limerick at Pearse Park.
It has been a desperate season for Glenn Ryan's side, without a win in eight competitive games, but they showed little fear as they worked their way into an early lead with points from JJ Matthews and Sean McCormack.
Limerick were forced to survive on scraps and they trailed by 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time. Longford stormed out of the traps for the second half, with goals from Francis McGee and Matthews.
Ten minutes from time Limerick substitute Michael Reidy was shown a straight red card after a scuffle, and John Riordan soon followed.
