IN a rich irony, a man named McCarthy dumped Waterford out of the Munster U-21 championship last night.
Waterford went into an early lead but, in the 14th minute, full-forward Richie McCarthy hammered Eoin Ryan's knock down past a helpless Adrian Power to set Limerick on their way.
Six minutes later the impressive McCarthy turned provider when he put Graeme Mulcahy clear and he blasted his effort past the despairing dive of the Waterford 'keeper to make the score after 20 minutes 2-2 to 0-3.
With a half-time lead of 2-6 to 0-4, Limerick were never in danger and, despite a 46th minute goal from Jason Phelan, Waterford couldn't match the skill of Ciaran Carey's men.
Sharp-shooter Eoin Ryan rattled off a succession of points from play and from frees while senior star Seamus Hickey was in outstanding form.
