Lee's last-gasp equaliser earns Wicklow second bite
KILDARE 1-27 WICKLOW 2-24 (After extra-time)
KILDARE and Wicklow must meet again after a thrilling game in Newbridge finished level following extra-time.
The home side looked to have nicked it in the 91st minute when Paul Divilly landed a wonderful point from the left wing, but Wicklow's Mikey Lee struck a last-gasp equaliser in the dying seconds.
Wicklow centre-forward Lee finished with 2-14 – his two first-half goals giving his side a 2-7 to 1-9 lead at the interval.
Kildare started with a bang when Gerry Keegan netted after just 17 seconds. The visitors responded six minutes later when Lee scored his first goal and he added a second six minutes before the interval.
The lead changed hands on five occasions during a frenetic second half, but Kildare wing-back David Harney forced extra-time with a long-range point in the 68th minute.
Level at 2-17 to 1-20 entering extra-time, Kildare had a three-point lead after the first period, 1-24 to 2-18.
Within four minutes Wicklow were back level thanks to three successive frees from Lee before the sides went point for point in the closing minutes.
Three times Kildare edged in front but Wicklow kept reeling them in to force a replay.
