Kilkenny cling on for one point win over Clare

Clare were left to rue 10 second half wides as Kilkenny clung on for a 3-10 to 1-15 win in Ennis.

Brian Cody's men eased their relegation with a victory thanks to goals from Ger Aylward, Lester Ryan and Aidan Fogarty.

The game got off to a blistering start with Aylward and Colm Galvin trading early goals.

Both sides hit some lovely points before Lester Ryan pounced for a second Kilkenny goal just before the break and they led 2-7 to 1-7.

Aidan Fogarty stretched Kilkenny's advantage early in the second half with a goal of his own.

Clare struggled to make inroads into the Kilkenny lead with Tony Kelly's frees providing most of their scores.

Eoin Larkin's long range point gave Kilkenny a four point lead late on and although two Kelly frees and a fine point from Darach Honan saw Clare reduced the lead to a solitary point they couldn't find an equaliser.
