Kieran's too strong
St Kieran's 1-22
Dublin North 1-10
A decisive salvo of 1-4 in the third quarter fired All-Ireland champions St Kieran's College to victory over a determined Dublin North yesterday.
Hosts Kieran's hit the ground running with early scores from Hugh O'Neill, Michael Donnelly and Thomas O'Hanlon but a lucky goal from a long-range free by Niall O'Donnell in the 15th minute halted their charge.
Still, the Kilkenny side raced 0-13 to 1-5 clear by the break.
The visitors had early second-half points from Paul Winters and Ciaran Kilkenny to get within striking distance at 0-13 to 1-7, but then Kieran's pulled away.
Points from Aidan Cleere (2), O'Neill and O'Hanlon were followed by a goal from Michael Brennan, which put the result beyond doubt with time to spare.
