Kieran's firepower to land spoils

Leinster Colleges SH 'A' Final

Castlecomer CS v St Kieran's College, Nowlan Park, 2.0

ALL-IRELAND champions St Kieran's can take a step towards retaining their crown if they can see off county rivals Castlecomer CS at Nowlan Park this afternoon, writes Ruaidhri O'Connor.

The teams met in the league final earlier this year and although the north Kilkenny side coped well on the all-weather pitch at Heywood CS, they eventually went down 4-6 to 1-7.

And it won't be any easier as the track hardens today with the champions back at full strength.

Cillian Buckley, who skippered the Cats to All-Ireland minor glory last year, is back after missing most of the league, while Robert Lannon -- on this year's minor panel -- returns after heel surgery.

The ability of David Breen, David Moran and Declan Dunne to handle the Kieran's forward line will be key for Castlecomer.

However, with Richie Power's brother John, and Tomas O'Hanrahan in attack, Kieran's have plenty of firepower, while Richie Reid, brother of TJ, has been effective off the bench. This firepower should see them home.

Verdict: St Kieran's
