Kennedy hungry for glory after taste of big time
BRIAN Kennedy got a taste of the big time when he was named on the Kilkenny match-day list of 26 for last Saturday's All-Ireland SHC qualifier against Tipperary at Nowlan Park.
But the St Lachtain's defender has now shifted his attention towards this evening's Leinster U-21 hurling final against Wexford (7.30).
"The U-21 final is the main focus, after Saturday night. We've had good preparation since the Offaly game. Lads are pushing hard for places and we're happy with how things have gone," said Kennedy.
Kennedy, named at left corner-back for the visit to Wexford Park, said that the atmosphere generated by the visit of Tipperary last weekend had him wishing that he was on the pitch.
He said: "You'd love to be out there playing and you'd be envious of the lads. I was named on the 26 and it gives me a lot of confidence. Hopefully that will roll on to Wednesday night and we can get the win in Wexford.
"It was a great occasion and we were delighted to get the win against Tipp. But as soon as it was over, we were focusing on Wednesday and the seniors will get focused for Saturday night against Waterford. But there's never been an atmosphere like it (at Nowlan Park) ever before."
Senior squad members Kennedy, Padraig Walsh and Willie Phelan will all start in defence while Ger Aylward, who was taken off in the Tipp game, has been named at full-forward. Cillian Buckley is injured but is named in the subs.
Kilkenny are defending champions but Wexford, beaten finalists in 2010 and 2011, haven't won the provincial title since 2002.
