Kelly steadies Derry

Derry 0-15 Kerry 1-7

A host of missed chances couldn't prevent Derry from finishing their campaign with a win at Celtic Park yesterday.

On another day the home side might have paid for their wastefulness, 17 wides in all, but Kerry couldn't capitalise.

Derry led by 0-5 to 0-2 after 16 minutes thanks to Ruairi Convery (two), Paddy Henry, Kevin Hinphey and Liam Craig -- with Paddy Kelly imperious.

However, they were pegged back when Kerry's James O'Flaherty took advantage of a slip from Derry 'keeper Oisin Doherty to slot the ball into an empty goal to level the scores.

Derry went on to lead 0-9 to 1-2 at half-time but should have been out of sight after hitting 11 wides in the first half. They spurned a host of chances after the restart too and Kerry brought the score back to 0-10 to 1-6, which only roused the Ulster side into a flurry of scores to see out the game.
