Kelly holds out hope of Corbett comeback

EXILED Tipperary hurler Lar Corbett needs to be given his space, according to Eoin Kelly, who is expected to be back on Tipperary's bench tomorrow.

Kelly said he hasn't tried to change Corbett's mind after the Thurles star shocked the hurling world by walking away from the game this year.

"We chatted about it but Lar's made his decision. You'd have to know Lar's character, he's his own man," Kelly said.

"At the moment he's not back with his club. If we hear he's back with them then we'd be saying that's good news for us, but at the moment he's taking time out. The good thing is that Declan Ryan has left the door open for him."

Kelly has missed Tipp's last two games after picking up a hamstring injury, but he's "99pc" fit now and is expected to be included among the subs for tomorrow's pivotal league game against Cork in Semple Stadium.

Meanwhile, Waterford's hurlers have made two changes for their make-or-break clash with Dublin as Adrian Power replaces Stephen O'Keeffe in goal and Tony Browne comes in for Darragh Fives at wing-back.

Former captain Brian O'Connell could be set for a return to the Clare hurling panel for the championship. O'Connell (27) played no part in Clare's 2011 season, having emigrated to Australia. But the Wolfe Tones powerhouse has returned and played for the Banner against Galway in a challenge match last weekend.

It is understood that manager Davy Fitzgerald will monitor the player's fitness over the next two and a half months, with a view to possibly including O'Connell in his squad for the Munster SHC clash against Waterford on June 17.
