Kelly heroics bag last-eight berth

St Flannan's 1-14 St Colman's 1-9

Clare minor Tony Kelly was in inspirational form as St Flannan's came from seven points down to secure a quarter-final spot at Charleville yesterday.

Noel McNamara's goal helped St Colman's to a 1-4 to 0-0 after eight minutes, but Kelly, who ended up with eight points from centre-back, steadied the ship. With the wind behind them in the second period, St Flannan's were confident of overturning a 1-7 to 0-6 half-time deficit.

They restricted the Fermoy side to just two points after the break, and with substitute Joseph Barry scoring 1-1, the 21-times winners guaranteed their advancement with a game still to play.
