Johnson's magic earns glory

Down SHC Final
Ballygalget 3-19 Ballycran 1-13

Ballygalget turned in a scintillating display of hurling, teamwork and scoring power to overcome holders Ballycran in sun-kissed Portaferry yesterday.

Gareth 'Magic' Johnson was in brilliant scoring form, netting a personal tally of two goals and five points as Ballygalget dominated from the start.

He set up his side's first goal when his low shot from a 20-metre free was scrambled to the net by Conor Doran midway through the first half and two minutes later he scored a brilliant goal.

Two minutes into the second half he was again on hand to flick a Danny Toner pass to the net. This put the winners in a commanding 3-13 to 0-8 lead. Thereafter they strolled through the game, picking off six points.

Ballycran fought hard throughout but, despite their best efforts, which included a goal from Aidan Clarke, they were always fighting a losing battle as Ballygalget strolled to the title.
