Intermediate Cats in mix for senior roles

KILKENNY'S bid for a hurling treble got off to a flying start last weekend when the county's intermediate side annexed that title, beating Cork in a reverse of last year's final result.

And there's already speculation about what the absence of two of their intermediates' most prominent players -- Eoin Guinan and Paddy Hogan -- from last weekend's final might mean.

Guinan earned a senior call-up after starring in the St Lachtain's Freshford team that won the All-Ireland intermediate club title in February. Hogan, Richie's older brother, is another who is a member of both squads and usually plays centre-back for the intermediates.

Their absence has prompted speculation that they're in the running to make the cut for next Sunday's senior match-day panel.
