Hotshot Ghee runs riot to spark Longford stroll
Gareth Ghee fired 1-12 to inspire Longford to a 10-point victory over Warwickshire in Birmingham yesterday that set up a semi-final with Leitrim next weekend.
Despite trailing by a point at the interval when the score was 1-7 to 0-9 in favour of the hosts, Longford produced a storming second-half performance which included two outstanding individual performances from Ghee and Joe O'Brien, who contributed 2-18 of their total between them.
A goal from a close-in free just before the end of the first half by Warwickshire top scorer Kevin Codd gave his side a one-point lead after playing with the wind advantage.
However, they were completely overrun by the Midlanders in the second half and were a well beaten team long before the final whistle.
