Hinphey drives Oak Leaf comeback
Derry 1-17 Kildare 1-14
DERRY went a long way towards securing their league status with a stirring second-half fightback at Celtic Park.
It looked like profligacy would cost the Oak Leaf men as they hit nine wides in the first half. Having dominated possession thanks to the efforts of star man Liam Hinphey at centre-back, the hosts went in at the interval 1-8 to 0-7 behind.
Kildare's Billy Nolan hammered home a super goal on 32 minutes to give his side a solid advantage for the second half.
The Lilywhites stretched their lead early in the second half to give Derry a real shock. But with Alan Grant hitting four points from play, the hosts roared back into the game.
With Kildare full-back Fiachra O Muineachain getting sent off for two yellow cards, the home team could even afford a missed penalty from Conor Quinn as Ruairi Convery's goal propelled them to a deserved win.
