Hilliard's heroics seal title

Monaghan 1-18

Longford 1-10

Louth native Trevor Hilliard's 55th-minute goal proved pivotal as Monaghan secured the Division 4 title at a sunny Breffni Park.

Hilliard added to Monaghan's seven unanswered points on the restart after Longford had led by 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval thanks to a string of points from Gareth Ghee and a well-taken goal from John O'Brien.

Less than a minute after Monaghan's green flag, the Leinstermen's cause wasn't helped when they lost Mark Cassidy to a straight red card after he lashed out at Hilliard.

It was all too easy for wind-aided Monaghan after that with Michael McHugh punishing an increasingly frustrated Longford at every opportunity to ensure his side's promotion to Division 3.
