Hilliard strike puts Monaghan on road to title

Monaghan 1-18
Longford 1-10
Kerry 2-18
Derry 1-15

A blistering 20-minute spell in the second half saw Monaghan master Longford in the NHL Division Four final at Breffni Park.

Trevor Hilliard goaled in the 55th minute as Monaghan sparkled in out-scoring their fitful opponents by 1-9 to 0-1 after the restart. Wind-aided Longford led by 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval after Joe O'Brien's 13th-minute goal had helped give the Leinstermen the edge.

However, less than a minute after Monaghan's goal, Longford lost Mark Cassidy to a straight red card. It was all too easy for the more determined Monaghan side after that with Longford relying on counter-attacks.
