Heartbreak Alley as Oulart regain senior title

It was heartbreak for Buffers Alley as neighbours Oulart-the-Ballagh regained their Pettitt's Wexford senior hurling championship title with a 14-point victory at Wexford Park yesterday.

After losing last year's final to Rathnure, Oulart-the-Ballagh showed why they have been the dominant force in Wexford hurling with an assured performance.

After just a single point separated the sides, 0-4 to 0-3, after 14 minutes, corner-forward Dessie Mythen struck for the first of his two goals to give his side a four-point advantage.

With Rory Jacob picking off some delightful points -- he finished the opening half with seven from play -- Oulart gradually built up momentum, with Mythen firing home his side's second goal two minutes before the break. Although Paul Doyle had scored a goal for the Alley two minutes earlier, the result was a foregone conclusion as Oulart led 2-11 to 1-5 at the interval.

Buffers Alley were further rocked when Nicky Kirwan crashed home a splendid goal within four minutes of the restart.

A Willie Doran 53rd-minute goal did not spark any surge from the Alley, while just to demonstrate their dominance, it was Oulart-the-Ballagh who closed matters off with a Stephen Doyle goal five minutes from the end of what was a disappointing final.
