Harney digs Lilies out
Kildare manager Andy Comerford wasn't too happy with his side's winning performance in Newbridge against 14-man Wicklow.
The Lilywhites were expected to ease past a side two league divisions below them this season but they needed a goal from man of the match David Harney six minutes from time.
"Wicklow are always tough and spirited and they're always hard to play," said Comerford. "There's no doubt it was a bad one for us but we dug in."
Wicklow had Thomas Doyle sent off for a wild pull on Neil O Muineachain after 17 minutes.
Andy O'Brien's 26th-minute goal helped Wicklow go in at half-time leading by 1-8 to 0-9 and a shock looked on. But Harney struck the telling blow to edge Kildare through.
