Guiney guides Wexford home
Wexford 3-13 Offaly 3-10
JACK GUINEY crashed home two first-half goals from frees to help Wexford overcome a battling Offaly at Wexford Park.
After the sides had traded points, it was the midlanders who made the breakthrough after just four minutes.
Peter Geraghty forced a fine save out of Conor O'Leary but Jason Sampson was on hand to bat the rebound to the net.
Colm McDonald hit back with a goal for Wexford before Guiney sent a 20-metre free to the net on 17 minutes, giving his side a lead, 2-2 to 1-2, which they never relinquished.
Guiney then raised his second green flag from a free after 25 minutes, helping Wexford to a 3-5 to 1-7 interval lead.
An early second-half goal from Joseph O'Connor brought Offaly back into it but Guiney kept the scoreboard ticking over and Peter Geraghty's late goal wasn't enough.
