Gleeson seals title

Warwickshire 2-16 Longford 0-10 Lory Meagher Cup final

Longford were no match for a lively and attack-minded Warwickshire outfit in Croke Park yesterday.

Warwickshire adopted an attacking approach right from the start led by 1-9 to 0-8 at the break, and should have had the game out of sight in a dominant third quarter.

Sean Hennessey continued to find the target from frees, and was denied a goal by a brilliant Eanna Daly save.

Wing-back Conal Maskey also stepped up to fire over an inspirational point as the men from Birmingham tightened their grip on the game.

A solid defensive operation, with Brian Bermingham and Maskey at the top of their game, snuffed out the Longford attack, which was restricted to just two second-half scores from Donnellan frees.

And the result was put beyond doubt when centre-back Eamon Gleeson sent in a long punt which Daly fumbled over his goal-line.
