Foley to miss rest of League

Jackie Cahill

RICHIE Foley has confirmed that he will miss the remainder of Waterford's Allianz National Hurling League campaign through injury.

The versatile Abbeyside clubman, who can operate in defence, midfield or attack, is recovering from surgery on a hip injury and faces another nine weeks on the sidelines.

Foley (24) believes that he will be fit in time for the Deise's Munster SHC showdown with Clare on June 17, but the news that he will not feature during the League will come as a blow to manager Michael Ryan, who is down a number of players through injury.

"June 17 is the only date in my head -- I've ruled out the League," said Foley.

"Championship is everything in my mind now and making sure that my leg is right. Please God it will be but I'm not going to rush it because I could ruin myself completely.

"The operation was the only solution, but I should be ready in time for championship, depending on how well I come back and how fast I can get fit."
