Having been 11 points in arrears at half-time, Waterford came back to gain a one-point win over Clare at Sixmilebridge yesterday.
The Deise will now face Cork in the decider after Davy Fitzgerald, the Waterford manager, thwarted his old team-mate Ger 'Sparrow' O'Loughlin, the Clare manager.
Five points apiece after 18 minutes, Clare recorded 2-7, to go in 2-12 to 0-7 ahead. Goals by Cathal McInerney and Fergal Lynch five minutes later opened up the Waterford back-line.
But Fitzgerald's men never panicked and after the interval they set about overturning the huge lead. A goal from a 20-metre free by talisman Richie Foley in the 40th minute began a period that saw Waterford dominate.
A second goal by corner-forward Shane Casey in the 56th minute put the visitors 2-16 to 2-14 in front. Despite a late Colin Ryan point for Clare to regain the lead briefly, Waterford took the honours thanks to two injury-time pointed frees by Foley.
