Holders Waterford are through to the semi-finals after an unconvincing four-point victory over Cork Institute of Technology at Walsh Park yesterday. The hero for Davy Fitzgerald's men was centre-forward Richie Foley who finished with a personal tally of 1-8.
It was a mostly unrecognisable Waterford team that took the field and the students took advantage in the first half.
With Ryan Clifford proving a reliable free-taker, CIT led by 0-5 to 0-1 early on but the home side improved dramatically after the break and Foley's goal from a 21-yard free in the 44th minute proved to be the game's decisive score.
