Fitzpatrick hero for Carlow

Carlow IT 1-12
DCU 0-13

A late goal by Enda Fitzpatrick handed Carlow IT a dramatic victory at Pearse Stadium.

With the game drawing to a close, DCU held a 0-13 to 0-11 advantage until disaster struck when a mistake by goalkeeper Bill McCormack created the opening for the alert Fitzpatrick to find the net.

Substitute John Phelan clipped over a point moments later to seal an unlikely success for Carlow IT.

Carlow IT made all the early headway with Neil Foyle, Fitzpatrick and Shane Kavanagh propelling them into a 0-6 to 0-3 lead after the opening quarter. Yet DCU, inspired by Colm Coughlan and Brian Flaherty, drew level at the break at 0-7 apiece.

DCU maintained their good form into the second half and surged into a 0-13 to 0-11 lead. They looked set for victory until Fitzpatrick's late intervention.
