Fitzgerald pleased by clinical Clare

Davy Fitzgerald enjoyed his first competitive outing as Clare manager as his side outclassed Waterford IT in Sixmilebridge yesterday.

Though WIT rested 10 players in advance of Thursday's Fitzgibbon Cup clash against Cork IT, Fitzgerald insisted that a morale-boosting victory was important.

"Once we win and we win well, that's fine," he said. "We did what we had to do and that's all I'm worried about."

The home side led by six points to no score after 10 minutes and by half-time had amassed a 2-14 to 0-3 lead, with goals from Aaron Cunningham and Daire Keane.

In the second half, with Clare well in control, they recorded a third goal through Eoin Hayes, whose low shot deceived WIT 'keeper Stephen O'Keeffe.
