First-half goals put Dubs in control as outclassed Westmeath flounder

Dublin South were never troubled in this one-sided first-round championship clash at Kinnegad yesterday.

Despite home advantage, Westmeath struggled to field a team and the game was delayed by 20 minutes, before 17 players togged out.

Dublin's two goals in two minutes before half-time from James Roche and Naoise Greene effectively sealed it. The youngsters from the capital led by 2-8 to 0-4 at the break, with Westmeath's scores coming from placed balls by full- forward Niall O'Brien.

Dublin added six points in a dull second half, where Westmeath's 'keeper Liam Varley kept the score semi-respectable.
