Egan pounces to save day for Down

ANTRIM 2-13 DOWN 2-13

Despite the pouring rain at Casement Park yesterday, these sides provided an excellent display, with a thrilling closing 10 minutes, to finish deadlocked.

Antrim led by 1-5 to 0-6 at half-time, with Ryan McCambridge hitting a long-range goal on 25 minutes, but a 1-2 blitz by Caolan Bailie and a point by Sean Mageen inside nine minutes of the restart shot Down 1-9 to 1-6 ahead.

From there Antrim powered back, aided by a second McCambridge goal, to lead 2-12 to 1-12 with time running out before Down midfielder Chris Egan sent a ground-shot to the Antrim net.

Egan's midfield partner Lorcan McMullan and Antrim's Conor Johnson exchanged further points but the sides must do it all again.
