A pointed free by Jane Dolan in injury-time snatched the league Division 3 title for Meath at Donaghmore-Ashbourne as the home side beat Kildare by 3-9 to 2-11.
Dolan contributed 2-4 although she was marked much better by Kildare in the second half. The Blackhall Gaels star threatened to run riot in the opening period, and her two first-half goals put her side ahead by 2-4 to 1-6 at half-time despite having played into a strong wind.
Carol Nolan found the net for Kildare and Susie O'Carroll landed four frees. The Lilies resumed in determined fashion and a Roisin O'Connell goal in the 33rd minute gave them a dream start. Two points from Aoife Maguire brought the sides level, before three O'Carroll points put Kildare in control.
They held that advantage until the 53rd minute when Lizzie Oaks' sideline cut flew into the Kildare net and both sides had chances to win it before Dolan's late clincher.
Meanwhile, a hat-trick of goals from Joanne Walsh and 1-3 from player of the match Pamela Greville helped Westmeath account for Cavan in the Division 4 final by 4-6 to 2-8. Cavan's Marie Brady struck for two goals and Roisin O'Keeffe was dangerous, but Walsh's poaching skills and the switch of Greville to full-forward paid dividends for Westmeath.
