De Burca sees off Sligo

Dara De Búrca's late goal helped Fingal pull away to victory in a scrappy encounter at Markievicz Park yesterday.

Centre-forward Martin Ormonde contributed nine points for the winners in a clinical display.

Sligo were overly dependent for scores on Colin Herity, who contributed eight of their 10 points from frees.

However, four Herity scores kept them in contention at the break, with the visitors leading by 0-5 to 0-4. Fingal began to play more cohesively in the second half but it was still close until De Búrca's goal with 10 minutes left.

De Burca batted home from substitute Brian McCarthy's assist to extend the lead to five points, 1-11 to 0-9, and Fingal forged clear from there.
