Damien Casey's 13-points carry Tyrone over the line
Tyrone 1-27 Sligo 2-21 (After extra-time)
Tyrone left it late to claim an opening win in the competition at O'Neill Park in Dungannon.
Sligo threatened a shock as they took the NHL Division 3B champions to extra-time, but Damien Casey's 13-point haul carried the home side over the line and into the semi-finals.
Tyrone's Matthew Mulgrew hit the net after two minutes. But Sligo recovered for Keith Raymond and Gary Waldron to hit a string of points.
Tyrone led by 1-12 to 0-9 at half-time, but Sligo midfielder Neil Hyland drilled a 20-metre free to the net 12 minutes into the second half and Gerard O'Kelly-Lynch hit his side's second goal in the 49th minute.
Tyrone needed a Casey leveller to send the tie to extra-time, 1-20 to 2-17. And it was Casey and substitute Duibhir Marshall who scored the late points that sealed it for Tyrone.
