A spectacular display of shooting powered Waterford past Clare in this play-off at a sunny Fraher Field last night.
The Deise demolished their opponents in the second half as they scored 3-17 from play in a polished team performance.
The away side played with the aid of the breeze in the opening half, but Waterford made the brighter beginning.
The sides traded two points each before Patrick Curran and Adam Farrell gave Waterford a 0-4 to 0-2 lead.
Then on 10 minutes, Shane Bennett's long delivery fell kindly for Conor Gleeson, who slipped in behind the Clare cover to blast to the net.
Bobby Duggan, who raised six white flags in the opening half-hour, brought the Banner back into contention with a hat-trick of frees, but Waterford replied with three of their own.
The Waterford full-forward line looked lively, spearheaded by Curran, with Farrell at wing-forward contributing three first-half points as they held a 1-10 to 0-8 advantage at half-time.
The hosts tore from the traps on the resumption to clinch the contest. On 32 minutes, Michael Kearney batted down Farrell's sideline cut and Cormac Curran was on hand to whip the ball to the net.
Kearney was a livewire in the corner and he bagged a brace of points to ease Waterford 10 points clear (2-12 to 0-8).
Stephen Bennett came off the bench to shake the net from a penalty on 43 minutes, before Duggan cracked home a consolation goal for Clare.
Bennett then added his second major with seven minutes left, as a rampant home outfit sealed a semi-final encounter with Cork on June 26.
