Cullen leads rout of Louth
Donegal 5-14 Louth 1-9
DONEGAL booked a semi-final showdown against Tyrone with a comfortable victory over Louth on Saturday.
Donegal stormed into a 2-1 to 0-0 lead after just four minutes and, in truth, Louth never looked capable of mending the early damage.
Danny Cullen's long-range shot deceived all en route to Ruairi O'Reilly's net for the opener, and the big midfielder was instrumental in his side's second goal moments later, as his searing run allowed Ciaran Matthewson to tee up Paddy Hannigan to finish.
Louth passed up a couple of goal chances of their own before David Mahony pulled one back midway through the half, but Donegal were well in control at the break, going in with a 2-8 to 1-2 advantage.
Sean McVeigh cut through the home defence all too easily to net goal number three after the re-start and Matthewson rounded off a sweeping move with an emphatic finish to make it 4-11 to 1-7 in the 53rd minute. Donegal were able to ease up in the closing stages, but still managed to plunder a fifth goal through McVeigh, following a superb handpass from Matthewson.
